Hello, I’m Max. I have a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering and a B.S. in electrical engineering, both from Rice University. Through both my schooling and extracurricular research in mathematical optimization, I built strong mathematical fundamentals and an appreciation for understanding subjects by building on these fundamentals.

I have ample experience teaching students from serving as a course assistant during both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I have experience crafting practice problems for students, leading recitations, and designing course notes. Classes for which I have served as a teaching assistant in the past include Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering I, Signals, Systems, and Transforms, Random Signals (a probability and statistics course), and Implementation of Digital Systems.

My approach to teaching is to build intuition and understanding by starting from basic principles, often deriving results from these principles while providing motivation for steps along the way. This makes learning feel more like a journey instead of a series of facts. As both an undergraduate and graduate course assistant, I would ask specific questions to identify gaps in my students’ understanding to address the root of their confusion. I often go the extra mile to prepare intuitive explanations and break down abstract mathematical constructs in visual terms. My goal is not just to help students improve their grades or pass a class, but to develop an appreciation for and deep understanding of the subject at hand.

Feel free to reach out with specific subject requests (for example, “I need help understanding binomial distributions”). Broadly, I can help with the subjects including calculus (both single and multivariable), probability and statistics, linear algebra, transforms (Fourier and Laplace), basic circuit theory, and introductory physics (particularly electricity and magnetism). I look forward to helping you reach your educational goals.

Approved Subjects

Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I took several courses while earning a BS in Electrical Engineering that utilized linear algebra, including matrix analysis. I am not only familiar with the subject, but also its applications to engineering.
Physics

Physics

In university as an electrical engineering major, I took honors mechanics and honors electricity and magnetism courses. My areas of strength within physics are circuit analysis (including phasor analysis), harmonic oscillators, and basic mechanics. I am also familiar with applications of university physics to electrical engineering.
Probability

Probability

I earned an excellent grade in my undergraduate Random Signals in Electrical Engineering course (which is a probability and statistics course). I also have extensive experience teaching probability and statistics due to serving as a TA for this course in graduate school.
SAT Math

SAT Math

Scored 800 on the SAT math section.
