I try to make tutoring interactive by asking questions and encouraging students to explain their thinking. I like to see how a student approaches a problem first, because that usually makes it easier to identify exactly where the confusion begins. From there, I break the problem into smaller steps and explain the reasoning behind each one. I also ask students to talk through their thinking so I can make sure they understand the process rather than just copying a solution.
I tutor elementary math, Algebra I, and Algebra II. My goal is to help students feel less intimidated by math and become more confident solving problems on their own.
