I'm Samuel! I am currently an undergraduate Neuroscience student at Colgate University on a pre-med track. I graduated 7th in my high school class, earned the IB Diploma, received my school’s IB Mathematics and IB Chemistry awards, and scored a 36 on the ACT. These experiences helped me develop strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills across a wide range of subjects. I have over 2 years of tutoring experience working with students both online and in person, primarily in one-on-one or small-group settings. I tutor students ages 10-18 in K-12 math subjects, including Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, AB/BC Calculus, and IB Mathematics, as well as Chemistry, from on-level classes to IB Chemistry.
My tutoring style focuses on conceptual understanding, adaptability, hands-on practice, and long-term academic confidence rather than short-term memorization. I believe students benefit most when they understand why concepts work, not just how to solve problems they have seen before. Understanding the "why" behind a concept promotes deeper critical thinking, allowing students to apply knowledge independently rather than relying on memorized patterns or formulas. I create lesson plans that reintroduce topics in smaller, more digestible parts, then explicitly teach the material while integrating real-world examples and applications to promote deeper understanding. Each of my lessons also includes focused practice time in which the student practices the material on their own, and then I review the practice problems and address any points of confusion as needed.
My goal is to help students build confidence and develop skills that benefit them beyond a single class or assignment. I always encourage open communication with both students and parents, and I welcome any resources, goals, or suggestions families would like to share. I am easy to reach, respond quickly to inquiries, and genuinely enjoy helping students grow academically. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
