Hello! My name is Alex, and I am a rising senior at a prestigious boarding school in Connecticut. Throughout my academic career, I have pursued a rigorous curriculum, enrolling in various AP and honors courses while maintaining high honor roll distinction with a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Beyond the classroom, I co-captain the wrestling team and have founded and led multiple clubs on campus — experiences that have sharpened my leadership, discipline, and ability to work with people of all backgrounds and temperaments.
Most relevant to tutoring, I serve as a peer tutor two days a week in math, history, and English. I say this not just to list a credential, but to assure you that I possess the tenacity, knowledge, experience, and patience it takes to be genuinely effective in this role.
You may be asking yourself whether it’s a good idea to hire a high schooler to tutor your child. The answer is yes — and the research backs it up. Studies have found that peer tutoring produces academic gains that are as good as, or better than, adult tutoring. The science boils down to relatability: students often perceive peer tutors as less threatening, due to proximity in age, common interests, etc. Because we are close in age, It is much easier to make those personal connections that add another layer to the typical tutor-student dynamic. When a student feels that connection, their guard comes down, questions come more freely, and the material starts to click.
I say this because I know from experience as not to long ago I was in your child’s very position! I remember what it feels like to have no clue what’s going on in math class, or to face an essay due the next morning that you haven’t even looked at. I have been there — but most importantly, I found my way through it. I tell you this because your child can get there too, and I know the path. I am flexible with my rate and eager to help. I look forward to working with you..
