Hello! My name is Tina, and I am currently a senior at Emory University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology, with a minor in Music Performance. I have been playing both the flute and piano since the age of nine and have continued to grow through years of private lessons in both high school and college. Music has been a consistent and meaningful part of my life, not only as a performer, but also as a way to connect with others. I have served as first chair flute throughout middle and high school, and I continue to actively perform today at Emory and playing piano at my local church.

Through my experiences, I discovered that the most impactful teachers were not only skilled, but also patient, encouraging, and able to make learning enjoyable. I bring this same philosophy into my tutoring. I strive to create a positive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable learning at their own pace. I focus on building strong fundamentals, such as technique, tone, rhythm, and music reading, while also incorporating music that students enjoy so lessons stay engaging and motivating. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style based on individual goals, whether that’s preparing for band placement, learning a new instrument, or simply playing for fun.

I also have experience teaching beginner and intermediate flute and piano students for 3 years. My flute students have successfully earned positions in their school bands, and my piano students have progressed to playing songs they enjoy independently. I am patient and detail-oriented, and I always make sure students feel confident before moving forward.

My goal as a tutor is to help students grow not only in their musical skills, but also in their confidence and enjoyment of music. I am always happy to adjust lessons to fit each student’s needs and interests. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson! I would love to help you on your musical journey!

Flute

I have been playing the flute for over a decade and have received extensive private instruction throughout both high school and college, where I also pursued a minor in Music Performance at Emory University. I have held first chair positions in middle school, high school, and community band ensembles, which reflects my strong technical foundation and musical leadership. In addition to performing, I have experience teaching beginner flute students, helping them develop tone, technique, and music reading skills; many of whom successfully earned positions in their school bands. My teaching approach focuses on building strong fundamentals while keeping lessons engaging and tailored to each student’s pace and goals, ensuring both skill development and confidence.

Piano

I have been playing the piano for over a decade and have received extensive training through private lessons in middle school, high school, and college, where I am also pursuing a minor in Music Performance at Emory University. I have experience teaching beginner piano students, helping them build strong foundations in technique, rhythm, and music reading, while also guiding them toward playing songs they enjoy independently. In addition to teaching, I actively perform at my local church and with musical groups at Emory, and I have been recognized for my performance with a Silver award at the Tumon Bay Music Festival. My teaching approach is patient and structured, focusing on developing fundamental skills while keeping lessons engaging and tailored to each student’s goals.
