Hi, I am Jenni and I am an Indiana University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education. I also earned my Master’s degree in English/Literature and Communications. Tutoring is second nature to me as I have always worked one-on-one with students after school and on weekends. I have tutored many subjects, helping to bring students up to grade level. At the same time, I have tutored students for enrichment with the goal of getting accepted into Ivy League colleges where the acceptance rate is low. For the past fifteen years, and currently, I am teaching 9th, 10th, and AP English classes.
My approach to tutoring a student is to first determine their learning style after giving them a diagnostic practice test. I am a firm believer in teaching students that the learning process is a life-long skill. I believe that persistence in coursework is equally important as the actual understanding of the material. I also believe in teaching students editing skills so that they can polish their essays before submission. I have privately taught many SAT classes and am very familiar with the new digital test and the types of questions students need to familiarize themselves with. I use a variety of curricula to help my students with understanding the key concepts on the SAT. I have seen my students increase their scores by teaching them how to strategize and giving them tips on how to answer the reading, writing, and grammar questions. I encourage my students to eliminate choices and, if the answer comes down to two choices, how to determine the reasonableness when making their final choice. Helping them identify the types of questions that are designed to trap them is a tool they will use throughout their college career, not only on the test itself. One-on-one tutoring can make a monumental difference in a student’s academic career and I look forward to making long-lasting differences in many more students’ academic growth.
