Hi! Thanks for stopping by! My name is Nirjhar, and I am excited that you are considering me as a tutor. I primarily work with students on SAT Math, where I focus on teaching efficient strategies to answer questions quickly and confidently - without resorting to brute force or getting stuck under time pressure. I also enjoy tutoring computer science and math topics such as data structures, algorithms, and probability, especially for college students who want to reinforce lecture material or prepare for LeetCode-style interviews for software engineering internships.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with High Honors from Georgia Tech and am currently finishing my Master's degree with a focus on Machine Learning. Along the way, I have interned at large tech companies like Uber and AT&T and conducted research in distributed systems. These experiences shaped how I approach problem-solving and teaching. In sessions, I often start by asking students to "show me what they know" and explain their current understanding out loud. From there, I help refine or correct their reasoning as needed, and then I challenge them to work through practice problems out loud to demonstrate their skills. This creates an active, engaging learning process that is very different from passively copying notes and helps students build real intuition and confidence.
I have also had hands-on teaching experience as a Teacher Assistant for an Introduction to Java course, where I worked with students both one-on-one and in classroom settings. I helped create lesson materials, practice problems, and review guides, and learned how important patience and adaptability are when teaching students with different learning styles. In addition, I have volunteered teaching basic math and English to underprivileged students, which further reinforced the importance of meeting students where they are and adjusting my teaching approach to fit their needs. I would be happy to chat and see if I am a good fit for you or your student!
