My name is Robert! I completed my Ph.D. in German Literature and a Pedagogy certificate in teaching Language and Culture at Harvard University and have a MA in German Literature from the University of Virginia and a BA in Anthropology from Columbia. After finishing my education, I served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of German at Auburn University. I love teaching in the classroom, but students often need someone that they can go to in a low-pressure environment outside the classroom who will listen to their individual needs and work with them in areas they are struggling, or sometimes in areas in which they excel and wish to pursue further training. That sort of personalized help can truly make a difference for numerous students.
Teaching has been a major part of my life for two decades now. My first jobs were as a tutor in high school, teaching a local middle school student German and offering ACT prep tutoring to fellow high school students, and during college I taught at an after school program for reading at an elementary school in New York, and I have served as a teaching assistant, teaching fellow, lecturer or professor nearly every year since then. At the college level, I have taught German language, American literature and in many cases have led extensive discussions of history and intercultural relationships between the two countries. Some of my favorite work has been working with students in one-on-one sessions, helping students plan projects and delve deeper into readings or taking tutoring jobs for young students looking to learn German from scratch. I have taught students ranging from elementary school students to Law professors, though the bulk of my experience is with high school and college students.
I offer remote sessions to students anywhere and can meet Atlanta locals in person. Due to time and transportation constraints, my current preference for in-person meetings is in a semi-public area in the Poncey Highland/Virginia Highland area, though clients may ask about other venues.
