I was a highly proficient student in math and social studies, scoring exceedingly well (and sometime perfectly) on the math and writing sections of standardized testing all throughout my primary and secondary education. This continued in my undergraduate studies at USF where I received Bachelor's degrees in Biomedical Sciences and Public Health. My unique aptitude for writing as a STEM student then set me up for interdisciplinary opportunities, including earning a national Gilman scholarship to complete and internship abroad in Thailand at the age of 20. This diverse background of study continued into my graduate education at Emory University where I earned a Master of Public Health degree in Global Health and a Master or Arts degree in Bioethics.

Throughout all of this schooling, I have also concurrently taught other students. In my junior and senior years of high school, I tutored algebra and geometry to underclassmen. These lessons were done 1:1 at school after class hours. This setting allowed me to begin honing my skills utilizing the Socratic method, allowing my students to not only learn how they came to an answer, but why that method was successful as well.

In college, I was a peer mentor and taught a Fall semester seminar to freshmen on health and college readiness for 3 years. In college I also taught middle school aged students English grammar and vocabulary in Thailand as part of an internship. While a fan of the socratic method, these teaching experiences stretched me out of my comfort zone and taught me how to be effective as a didactic instructor due to the size of the classes. Here I learned about student engagement on a larger scale.

As a graduate student I was a TA for two courses, including a global health introductory course that every first year MPH student must take and a graduate bioethics seminar which honed student's writing skills. Post-grad, while working as a data analyst, I was also given the opportunity to teach that graduate seminar myself for a Fall semester.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

With a knack for calculations, I began tutoring algebra as a high school student myself. I then tutored ACT and SAT math in my junior and senior years. As an undergraduate, I took many college-level math courses for completion of my Biomedical Science degree and also worked with GRE prep to score in the 90th percentile on the math section with limited study time.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Geography

Geography

Working internationally requires one to be a student of the world, regarding everything from culture and language to topography and climate. With 2 degrees in public health, much of my education has revolved around humanities, community, and anthropology as it relates to health. As a personal geography buff, the brass tacks of the factoids also work in my favor. I can not only name every country in the world from memory, but I can also dive into some deep discussions about how their histories intertwine.
SAT Writing

SAT Writing

As someone that has personally taken the SAT 3 times and has also tutored/mentored/trained countless students on efficient writing in preparation for standardized testing, I am well-versed in this area. The trick with SAT writing is not even essay writing itself, it is knowing how to identify good writing, and knowing how to make good writing better; both of which are skills that can be honed with practice.
Writing

Writing

Writing is integral to everything--even for STEM majors. Language and written word are how we connect with the world; you could know everything about a subject, if you cannot communicate your knowledge effectively, it simply lives and dies with you. I have written countless op-eds, Masters theses, research papers, and lab reports--all of which have different writing styles which are all important to learn and grow in.
