My name is Ava! I am currently a sophomore at Emory University majoring in Human Health with a minor in Nutrition seeking a Bachelor of Arts. I graduated from West Essex High School and have a High School Diploma. As a high school student, mathematics was always my favorite subject. I enjoyed learning different concepts as I got older and thought it would be enjoyable to teach other kids struggling in an area that I was proficient in. When a family friend of mine reached out for help, I was beyond excited to begin my tutoring journey.
This first student of mine was a Freshman in high school seeking help in Geometry. Prior to our session, he sent me his course material for me to preview where I was able to get a better understanding of what he was learning. From there, I immediately created some practice for him and dug up my old geometry notes. At the session, we went through the notes his teacher provided him and reviewed some questions he got wrong. I felt elated to see him understanding the material as I was helping him. I was even more pleased when he reached out to me a few days later saying his test scores sky rocketed! From then on out, I knew that tutoring was a rewarding feeling for both myself and the student, and I continued tutoring other students near me in areas such as algebra and middle school math. This showed me that I especially liked teaching the concept of algebra.
Through the years, I have tutored ages 13-16 year olds in subjects such as middle school math, algebra, geometry, and more. I have been tutoring for almost four years now in a one on one setting. I usually offer in-person sessions, but as a college student, it is much easier to meet virtually or on my campus, depending on how far the student lives. I am excited to offer new students help in areas I enjoy teaching in and help their grades improve! Feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have!
