I am a versatile academic professional with more than ten years of experience in biomedical research and teaching science-based courses. My background includes over 500 hours of interdisciplinary education in genetics, biochemistry, immunology, and public health.

I have spent several years educating and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds, ages, comprehension levels, and disciplines. I take immense joy in being able to aid students with transforming complicated information into digestible concepts that they comprehend. I have the ability to adjust my teaching methods to accommodate the individual I am supporting, whether a younger student who may need assistance with the basic principles of biology or a graduate student struggling to grasp complicated genetic concepts. Through individually tailored lesson plans prepared to complement each student's strengths as well as address their weaknesses, I am able to curate tutor sessions that are effective and enjoyable.

My research focused on the relationship between exposures to environmental contaminants and molecular mechanisms involved in obesity and related metabolic disorders. Specifically, I examined the role of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the immunoregulatory crosstalk between adipocytes and macrophages. I also study PAHs' effect on lipid accumulation and life-history using the animal model, Daphnia manga. In addition to my research experience, I have a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry, primarily as a teaching assistant. I have completed numerous pedagogy courses, trainings, and workshops that have honed my skills as an educator over the past decade.

knowledgeable and patient teacher

During our tutoring sessions, Asia helped me develop critical thinking skills I didn't realize I needed, as opposed to memorization methods I was previously taught. She worked with me intensively to strengthen my ability to dissect questions, analyze data, logically work through problems, and identify flaws in reasoning. Asia created an environment where I felt comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. Thanks to our focused work together in a short time frame (less than a week before the exam!), I saw significant improvement in my confidence and ability to navigate my biology exam. The skills I developed will continue to benefit me in my studies beyond this course.
