I am a researcher and scholar who focuses on ethnographic documentation and cultural preservation with a focus on Africana studies. With my native Gullah Geechee on the coast of South Carolina, cultural and historical connection to the story of Reconstruction Era in the Southern United States, I use my expertise as a former television producer and 25 years as a professor of undergraduate and graduate course levels, teaching media production, and demonstrating how to research and document stories of a culture and community.
My experience as a lecturer extends to public speaking, providing workshops on historical research, digital documentation using multimedia technology, along with collecting oral histories of elders within a culture and community. I continue to teach as an independent in order to support those interested in the multi-faceted use of multimedia technology for preservation of cultures and the lives of elders.
Using as a prototype the oral histories I have collected from Gullah Geechee elders in my own culture, I teach ways to research the cultural history within a community, and the methods to use documentation technology to memorialize and preserve those stories for future generations.
I hold a Doctor of Arts in Humanities degree from Clark Atlanta University (African/African American Studies and New Media Technology from Georgia Institute of Technology), as well as Bachelor and Master of Media Arts degrees from the University of South Carolina.
With extensive experience in the media production industry and an Emmy-nomination, I have taught digital media production and scriptwriting at Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, Clark Atlanta University and The Art Institute of Atlanta.
