For beginner players I have plenty of experience teaching the fundamentals of chess and teaching players to utilize the features of chess.com for efficient improvement. For intermediate and advanced players, I have plenty of opening files and grandmaster games that I can show you to help increase your knowledge of opening theory.

From 2nd to 10th grade I competed at chess tournaments. Over this period, I won 7 Georgia Grade Level Chess Titles and achieved a United States Chess Federation Expert title (2000+ elo) at age 14. In 10th grade I became interested in teaching chess and continued teaching chess throughout college. I have worked with over 30 students aged K-8 as a private coach and in after-school programs for Chess Atlanta. I have had many students become top 20 within their grade in Georgia and Parsons Elementary School has finished top 3 in the state for their age 3 years in a row. In teaching chess for over 6 years, I have become experienced in preparing lesson plans, communicating clearly, and using different teaching approaches for different styles of learning. I have had students make progress during hourly lessons by giving a 20-30 minute lesson on a new concept and then spending the remaining time going through their games played online. With this approach, I slowly increase students' knowledge of the game and we also identify their recurring in-game mistakes which allows students to become cognizant of their mistakes and the positions in which they make these mistakes.

The MMI interview is an interview that I have experienced numerous times throughout the medical school interview process. My stations were 6-8 minutes long and either acting based, ethical based, personal questions , or teamwork based. I now have the knowledge of the different types of MMI scenarios and how to properly handle these scenarios.

I am a recent graduate from the University of Georgia who will be attending Medical School in the Fall of 2021. Upon entering college I wasn't the best student and I finished freshman year with a 3.4 GPA. Midway through college I realized my study habits, discipline, and priorities needed to change. I was able to successfully make these changes and for my last 60 credit hours I made a 4.0 in every class, while holding 2 part time jobs as a Medical Scribe and organic chemistry II TA. Over these 2 years I learned how to be an efficient learner and planer for my routine. My additional experiences include the steps in pursuing medical school such as the MCAT, AMCAS and AACOMAS application, and medical school interviews.

Hi! I have over 8 years of experience competing at chess tournaments at which I won many state and national titles as well as a USCF expert norm/ tournament rating of over 2000. Currently, I have been coaching chess for 7 years and I have helped many students improve their game. Some of my students have achieved top 20 in their grade and I have coached teams to top 3 in the State. I have a system for teaching chess in which I first introduce the fundaments of the game and then watch/ go through my student's games and correct their mistakes. I look forward to sharing my system with you!

Chess

Justin’s knowledge of the game combined with his patient teaching approach make him a terrific chess tutor. Since starting with him a few weeks ago, my chess rating has climbed significantly. We work on everything from chess openings, middle game tactics and strategies, and the end game. I couldn’t recommend Justin any more highly.
