I’m a retired English professor who taught business, technical, academic, and literature courses for over thirty years, so I have degrees up to the Ph.D. I still like working with students and have the time to meet one-on-one remotely or simply online through exchange of material. I have the skills to evaluate academic writing quickly and accurately, and I have an excellent ability to make recommendations about structure. I’m considered informal and friendly in tutoring sessions. On the undergraduate level, I taught many standard literature courses, including Shakespeare surveys. At two universities I directed the Business and Technical Writing programs and taught a variety of courses on those areas, including one for non-technical majors. On the graduate level, I taught the “how to write your dissertation” course for the university. Students brought their thesis and dissertation chapters as class projects, although I also dealt with articles, thesis/dissertation proposals, and NSF-style proposal sections. Most students were in engineering and computer fields, but I also worked with students in such diverse fields as Horticulture and Plant Physiology. Typically about two-thirds of the class was international.
