I am a scientist with a deep commitment to education and mentorship, having graduated from the University of Richmond before earning my PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Georgia (UGA). During my doctoral work at the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC), I specialized in high-level structural elucidation using HPLC, NMR, and MS, and mentorship of undergraduate students. This allowed me to develop an intuitive understanding of the chemical logic that students often find most challenging. My academic career includes extensive time in the classroom and the lab, where I have successfully mentored over 40 undergraduate students in research and provided one-on-one tutoring for UGA students specifically in BCMB 3100. This local expertise ensures that I understand the specific rigor and expectations of the UGA curriculum.
Following my PhD, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the FAU Brain Institute under the direction of Dr. Randy Blakely, a pioneer in molecular neuroscience. This experience expanded my expertise from pure chemistry to the biological implications of molecular signaling, allowing me to show students how biochemical principles directly impact human health and neuroscience. My tutoring approach centers on high-quality, one-on-one mentorship where I translate complex mechanisms into logical, digestible concepts. I focus on building a student’s confidence by bridging the gap between textbook theory and real-world scientific application, ensuring they don't just memorize formulas but actually understand the molecular foundations of life.
