Hey! I am Shubhan, an undergraduate student at UGA pursuing a major in Civil Engineering and a minor in Environmental Design. As an engineering student and a former STEM Magnet student, math has always been a part of my life, and I have probably had the same struggles your student has had: silly mistakes in my work, feeling behind others. However, I have overcome these struggles with the help of good teachers and tutors. I hope to pass on the advice and skills I have learned to the students...
I hope to pass on the advice and skills I have learned to the students I tutor. I strive to understand each student's strengths, so that I can help them understand how to use them to overcome their challenges. Many times, students interpret math in their own way, and it does not translate to how their schools want them to learn math. I dedicate myself towards encouraging students to interpret math their own way, and then translate their understanding into a standardized method.
My experience includes 2 years of online volunteer tutoring on Learn To Be and working as a Mathnasium Instructor for 1 year. In Learn To Be, I gained experiences in prepping students for the math section of standardized tests (Texas STAAR, GA Milestones, etc.). I also gained experience in teaching new content through my time as a tutor in Learn To Be, teaching Pre-Algebra and Algebra I. In Mathnasium, I worked with students with learning disabilities such as ADHD, dyslexia/dyscalculia, and autism. Additionally, I learned to multitask by having to teach 1-4 students at a time, between kindergarten to 12th grade.
I want to maximize the time I have during sessions, and I am sure you want to get your worth's out of a session, so please send me materials/homework that your child wants to work on before a session, so that I can prep myself in time. Please do not hesitate to reach out to ask any questions!
