Hi, my name is Kristine. I have my PhD in Animal Behavior and welfare with a background focused in Ecology, Evolution, and Psychology. I was a teaching assistant in the University of Miami Biology department and then lecturer in the Psychology department at the University of Stirling in Scotland with courses focused in ecology, behavior, evolution, and research methods. I am an Advance Higher Education Associate Fellow with a passion for research. My research is focused on zoo animal welfare and behavior with a specialization in circadian rhythms (past projects with giant pandas and currently with polar bears). Within my research, I have mentored over 30 students writing their own dissertations and theses, several receiving departmental awards for their unique and rigorous work.

My tutoring specializations are in advanced Biostatistics, lab report writing, research paper writing, and general Biology test prep, though I can also tutor in specialized and advanced topics within Ecology, Evolution, and Animal Behavior.

My passion for research stems from my love for animals and my curiosity about the natural world. I approach education and tutoring in the same manner, by only requiring curiosity and patience with developing critical thought. Getting to know the sciences is simply gaining a new perspective on the natural world, and I hope that I can help you see that or at the very least help you pass your course.

If you want further details about me or my tutoring please feel free to contact me.

Approved Subjects

Biostatistics

Biostatistics

I took graduate level courses in Biostatistics at the University of Miami within the Biology department. I also have several peer reviewed publications where I apply advanced biostatistics to animal behavior and brain morphology research. I have also mentored undergraduate and graduate students on how to design and execute the biostatistics analysis for their theses.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

From high school, I was taking the advanced science classes including Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. Then to receive my undergraduate in Biology, I was required to take university level courses in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. In addition, my research often takes an interdisciplinary approach which requires me to apply knowledge from other sciences beside Biology. Therefore, I have a solid foundation of the general topics covered in Elementary Science and understand how they relate to each other in practical ways.
Environmental Science

Environmental Science

My Master's was in Biology with focuses in Ecology. During my Master's I took graduate level courses focused in environmental sciences which covered topics like global warming, the Holocene, and habitat destruction, along with the potential solutions like repopulation and habitat corridors. In addition, my research has focused on how the environment shapes behavior in captive animals so that natural behaviors can be understood and promoted (like reproductive behaviors) which allow for ex-situ conservation efforts to be developed.
Zoology

Zoology

My Master's and PhD were both focused in animal behavior. I took undergraduate and graduate level courses within the Zoology umbrella: Ecology, Animal Behavior, Evolution, Evolution of Animal Behavior, and Comparative Physiology (comparing physiology across species) among others. I have created tools that are designed to assess welfare for all species housed in zoos, including creating ethograms for all species housed in zoos. My research focuses in measuring circadian and circannual rhythms of species to understand how their behaviors and welfare are shaped and regulated by the environment in a feedback loop.
