Hi, I’m Ellie! I’m a college student at Florida State College at Jacksonville, working toward my Associate in Arts degree and studying music. My goal is to become a music educator. I currently work as a tutor, helping students with reading, writing, and foundational academic skills. I enjoy helping students work through challenges and feel more confident in what they can do.
My tutoring experience includes one-on-one work on phonics, decoding, sight words, reading comprehension, spelling, and sentence writing. I also help with English and writing skills for PERT preparation. I break tasks into smaller steps, model examples, and give students time to practice with support before trying independently. Depending on the student, I use pictures, games, guided questions, and material connected to their interests. For foundational math, I take the same step-by-step approach, helping students understand the process and explain their thinking.
Music is another area I’m excited to share with students. Flute is my primary instrument, and my experience includes four years of marching band, serving as a flute section leader and woodwind captain, and participating in indoor percussion. I currently study applied flute, music theory, sight singing and ear training, and class piano, and I perform in symphonic band. I can help beginning flute students with reading music, fingerings, rhythm, and practice habits, along with introductory music theory. My goal is to create a patient, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as they learn.
