I am a former Chemistry teacher with 5 years of experience in teaching in a local high school, 6 years of online English teaching, and 11 years on the Wyzant platform.

I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology in December 2012 from the University of Central Florida.

The areas that I excel at include Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, and Precalculus.

I lay out practical ways a student might advance his or her understanding of the material and coach the student not to get discouraged with difficult material. I draw on my understanding from sports, cooking, or other real-world examples to make the material accessible to the student, and I use numerous tools to check the student's understanding.

I prefer to tutor online, but I am willing to drive if you are within my travel radius.

Let me know what you or your student need, and we'll work out a plan for success!

Approved Subjects

Biology

Biology

Biology is a fascinating subject. It's all around us! In some ways, it is easy to learn, and in others, it challenges us to our core. You want a tutor who is passionate about this subject, whose experience allows fluency. Fluency leads to exceptional ability to teach the subject. You will get that with me; I made a subdiscipline of Biology my major!
Chemistry

Chemistry

Chemistry is everything. You can get through life without knowing chemistry, but you can't get through life without chemistry. It's who you are, it's what is around you. It's how you cook, it's how you eat and digest and think and grow. That is why it's useful to know it. Anyone can follow a recipe, but can you create one? Want to be a hairdresser or nail technician? Want to make soaps or shampoos or antimicrobial socks? Want to create jewelry from metals or stones, or would you like to know which gases are in stars light years away? Want to understand your favorite sci-fi show? You'll need this subject. I can help you learn it.
English

English

I am an online ESL instructor and have tutored native-speaking students in writing, grammar, and reading strategies.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I am in my third year teaching English, online, with VIPKID, an ESL company based in China, have completed the certificate for TESOL with the International Open Academy, and the TESOL certificate offered by VIPKID. I've spent the past year working with a high English Language Learner population in the public school where I work. The ESL students there range from beginner to very proficient in English.
Microbiology

Microbiology

Microbes...How many types do you know of? How can we study them? How have we come to know how they operate? They are everywhere and they are involved in symbiotic relationships, in every niche from humans to lichens. When you study microbiology, you study the different organisms, their structures and their functions in their environments. You cover true bacteria, and the enigmatic archaea, as well as microscopic single-celled and multi-celled eukaryotes. You also cover different methods for their identification and other studies, exploring the biochemical laboratory techniques. Let me know if or how I can help!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Your 6th or 7th grader is likely increasing their use of letters to represent numbers. For some, this can be confusing. Also, replacing the x for multiplication with a dot or parentheses, and the many formulas they must learn can be overwhelming. I can help give your middle schooler a solid foundation in preparation for algebra which will help them through higher math classes, as well. I focus on concepts and methods, here, and tailor my approach to the student's learning style. I treat the student with respect and coach them if they continue to find the work difficult. For many students, it just takes time to start making the connections. Once my students "get it" they have it and are able to do the work on their own.

Amazing tutor, highly recommend!

When I started meeting with Regina I was failing chem 2 which is the only class I needed to graduate college. After meeting with her my exam and quiz scores immediately began improving to A’s and B’s. I worked extra hard and met with her for the rest of the semester and wound up with the grade I wanted and graduated college because of it! Chemistry is in no way my best subject, but she helped me understand concepts and that helped immensely on exams for both the conceptual and mathematically based questions. She makes the material interesting by giving little stories and metaphors here and there and also by relating the material to real life, which makes it more understandable and also useful! At the beginning of the semester I thought working on chemistry was a waste of time, but now I understand how relevant it is in our daily lives. Can’t recommend her enough. If you’re on the fence, definitely do it!

AP Biology Master!

Regina's in-depth knowledge of the subject matter and visual instruction methods are the boost my daughter needed to excel in her AP Bio class. She went from a low B to A's in the class, and is gaining the insider techniques and confidence necessary to pass the AP Biology Exam this May! So happy we found Regina.

Wonderful, patient tutor.

Regina was a lifesaver! My son, a junior in college, was in panic mode do to finals all at once. Regina helped him go over all his power point slides and taught him how to connect the material all together rather than just memorize. She helped build up his confidence and decrease his stress and test anxiety. We are so thankful for her expertise and patient manner in which she tutors. Thanks Regina! See you next semester for sure!
