Have been working with elementary school through college students mostly in mathematics. Can work with you on test preparation for ACT,SAT, CLAST, GRE, GMAT etc. I would prefer to start right away with the particular thing a student has trouble learning. It may be necessary to back up some, if earlier material is really the problem. Try hard not to lecture or put you to sleep.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I taught pre-algebra and algebra for VCC for 10 years. I have a good record.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have long time College Algebra teaching experience, in addition to lots of tutor time.
Business

Business

I hold MS degrees in Management, and Industrial Engineering, have run a couple of businesses, am computer literate, and can learn what I need to know quickly. In addition to my 4 masters degrees, my 40 years of work experience, mostly in management, has given me a really good understanding of a lot of disciplines, like quality assurance (I was QA Director for the world's largest ammunition depot), engineering (Chief Engineer for an aircraft plant), and logistics (head of logistics division). A necessary part of most of my positions was the need to be responsible for my people, who numbered from a couple dozen to about three thousand at one point. I was good at all of the Human Resource functions, particularly the selection of great intermediate managers, and the training of everyone in the work force. I was responsible for budget preparation and execution for large and small organizations, and learned to "sell the programs" to upper echelons.
Calculus

Calculus

I taught calculus for Florida Southern College. I have also been tutoring several students.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have tutored students in math from 5th grade through graduate school. They do very well, and I enjoy helping them.
Finance

Finance

I used to teach corporate finance, investments, and personal finance for Florida Southern College. I still tutor regularly and invest personally.
Government & Politics

Government & Politics

My third Masters Degree was from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, courtesy of the Navy, as part of a mid career education program. It was quite an eye opening experience, that changed my perspective on the evening news and everything else. Was also an employee and an executive for the government for 31 years, and observed a lot from the trenches.
Political Science

Political Science

In 1981 I earned a Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. For over 31 years I worked for the government, largely in management and executive levels, where a degree of political sensitivity was invaluable. In recent years I have been an adjunct professor at 8 different educational institutions, mostly doing math and business courses, the latter involving political issues. All had institutional politics.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I taught prealgebra for 10 years at VCC.
Probability

Probability

Did a graduate internship with Army in Reliability Engineering. Master of Engineering from Tesas A&M, Was QA director at worlds largest ammunition depot. Taught probability and statistics a dozen times.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

The only college course in public speaking was as an undergraduate a long time ago -- but -- I was an active participant in Toastmasters in three different decades. I also took the Dale Carnegie course, and held a number of executive positions where public speaking was required. I'm sure I can help someone who is starting to learn about public speaking.
Statistics

Statistics

Used to teach Statistics and Quantitative Methods (another stat course) for Florida Southern College. Usually did it 3 times a year for 11 years. Tutor statistics pretty often now.
Study Skills

Study Skills

Study skills are needed by students at all levels. Important elements of study skills are environment, time management, focus, and avoiding getting stuck. I have been a teacher at the college level, for over 20 years and have been tutoring various subjects, mostly math and quantitative courses for over two years now. I believe I help my students more by getting them to improve their study skills, than by giving them information.

Awesome Tutor

Ray is an awesome tutor! I was freaking out for a statistics exam and he really took the time to explain things to me! He will use the time however you want it. It doesn't have to be lecture the whole time, which is what I loved. I didn't want it to feel like I was in class the whole time. I highly recommend him! Thank you Ray!

Outstanding mentor

Ray is helping a young lady through an on class. He keeps her on task. Focused. And motivated. She is doing very well thanks to his counseling and coaching skills. It isn’t the content that is difficult for her. It is the on line medium that is difficult. Thank you mr Ray.

Very Patient and Knowledgeable

Ray was able to help me better understand an Economic homework assignment that dealt with cost and break even. He also walked me through lecture power points to help me better understand Marginal increase, input/ output variables. He is very knowledgeable and nice in his approach in teaching to ensure that I understood the material.

Very knowledgeable

Ray was able to help my son work through the algebra 2 problems that he just was having a hard time comprehending. We will definitely use him again. Very patient and asked my son if he was understanding the material and slowed down if need be.

Excellent Tutor

Excellent work! Ray took the time to explain each problem in detail until I understood the information. I have a hard time understanding math and he explained it in a way that made sense. I would highly recommend him to anyone on this app.

Very knowledgeable, and patient with Jaylen's needs

His willingness to go right to where the root of the problem is in understanding to be able to move forward. It's this type of knowledge that will enable Jaylen to succeed with math.
