Hi! My name is Jake and I’ve got 10+ years of tutoring experience for families with elementary, middle school, high school children and college students. I love teaching a range of subjects, including Spanish, math, science, history and writing. I graduated from Columbia University in 2013 with my BA in Political Science and Spanish, becoming fluent during my semester living in Quito, Ecuador in 2012. After undergrad, I taught 3rd grade in Brooklyn, NY. I have additional experience supporting small businesses in Greater Boston. I graduated with my MBA from The University of Southern California Marshall School of Business in 2022 and have worked in the venture capital industry since. I have created and taught angel investing programs for graduate students and mid-career professionals so I also enjoy teaching adults.
I have the personal experience of starting with zero knowledge of the Spanish language and progressing all the way to fluency. I understand the thought processes and the perspective with which a native English speaker approaches learning Spanish. Simultaneously, my experiences living abroad in South America have enabled me to pick up on nuances in accents. Hence, I am well-equipped to instruct students of Spanish on all elements of the language – from grammar to pronunciation and colloquialisms – as well as provide cultural context.
