Hello parents! I know one of your biggest goals and challenges is to help your child succeed in school. If you have a child who is struggling in elementary, middle or high school in any math subject, or you just received a "not quite what we expected" report card, then I'm your tutor! I am a certified teacher and have taught all grades from Kindergarten through 8th grade. I teach phonics based reading, traditional math up through Algebra I, and everything in between. Children respond best to consistency, raised expectations, and having fun along the way! Students are excited about learning when we are. Let's have fun and learn together!

Before tutoring with your child, I like to meet or conference with parent(s) to discuss your challenges with and goals for your child. Then, when first meeting with your child, I will assess their learning style, determine a baseline of ability and grade level, and set concrete goals for our time together. After each session, I set aside 10 minutes to update you on your child's progress, let you know what your student should work on (short homework assignment) to ensure timely progress reaching our mutual tutoring goals, as well as answer any questions or concerns you may have. As you can see, I am thorough, professional, experienced, and anxious to help your child succeed. A healthy bonus resulting from tutoring is the increased confidence your child will attain when they realize that they really can do this!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

My approach in teaching and tutoring Algebra 1 is straight forward, interactive and actually fun. Really. As with all math, Algebra 1 is cumulative. Therefore, having a strong foundation is paramount. From the very first lesson, we work to establish that firm foundation to build on and as a result, students move forward with confidence in their knowledge and ability. Confidence is key.
Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I have taught 2nd grade Bible class for 2 years. We have had monthly Bible memory verses, take home family Bible activities, community service activities, as well as daily Bible lessons. In addition I have taught Sunday School to children of various ages. Children are eager to learn more about God and His Word and it is rewarding as a teacher to see them grow.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught 2nd grade for 2 years in a private school. Also, I home schooled my own 5 children, each for various number of years, ranging from Kindergarten to 9th grade. In all of my years teaching, I focused on phonics based reading, traditional elementary math, creative writing, science, history, cursive writing, and Bible study. While teaching, I worked after school tutoring students that needed extra help in any and all subjects. I pride myself on thorough, regular communication with my students' parents concerning their child's progress.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have taught 2nd grade for two years in a private school. I focused on traditional elementary math. I tutor several students in Common Core math that are struggling in the classroom.
English

English

Many years of teaching, both in a private school setting and homeschooling my own children, ensure tried and true principals that work and make learning fun. Focus is on fundamentals of reading and phonics provide a solid foundation for lifelong learning!
Handwriting

Handwriting

For many years I have taught both cursive and manuscript writing. Beginning in Kindergarten, I taught students to carefully and methodically form letters properly. Repetition and positive reinforcement result in students being proud of their penmanship and constantly working to make improvements. I stress the importance of posture, pencil grip, slanting paper, and practice. Cursive writing was part of the 2nd grade curriculum. I made it fun by playing great rhythmic music, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, each day during penmanship class. It was a favorite among the students.
Phonics

Phonics

In my opinion, phonics is an absolute must when learning to read. Students who have a strong phonics background are great readers and great readers read more. I have taught using a well-known phonics based curriculum from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Those foundational skills carry students through their entire elementary schooling with the ability to decode and sound out difficult words in a text. I love teaching phonics and have even tutored a 10th grader that had never been taught phonics. As a result, she was a poor reader and lacked confidence in herself in most areas. I started at the beginning of phonics instruction and after a few months she was eager to read corporately with her classes at school. This was a first for her and I am thankful she finally learned phonics. Her world opened up and she was thrilled!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

This past school year I taught and tutored a student in Pre-Algebra. To ensure success in Algebra, the standardized/nationalized Algebra Readiness Test was given and passed with a high score! I can do the same for your daughter.

Very warm personality with a caring nature

Sally has just started home tutoring our son with reading and writing, three mornings a week. Sally has a very warm personality with a caring nature, in a very short space of time our son has started to improve with his work as Sally makes his learning exciting and fun, she has interesting ideas and ways to engage him into learning, even our son is excited to learn. We are looking forward to the rest of his tutoring! Our time with Sally has come to an end which is very sad for us all. We are very thankful to have found such a wonderful tutor during our time in Orlando, we can't praise her enough! Our son's work has gone from strength to strength, through various ways Sally has taught him over 300 new spellings words. His penmanship has gone from being barely readable to being readable with ease including using punctuation and capital letters when needed, all with Sally's hard work and constant encouragement. After each lesson Sally took the time to go through what our son had achieved during his session which was especially helpful and fantastic feedback for us.
