During this time, I have gained experience in teaching people of all levels and ages. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Georgia Southern University and have finished two years of graduate school towards a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology.
During my teaching experience with students of various levels and ages I have developed a collaborative approach to teaching. Through teacher observations, studying education, reviewing lesson plans and structure, I have developed an eclectic approach which uses various teaching styles to suit the class size, age, level, and ability. I aim to take the student beyond the textbook and put them into real world situations where they must think, problem solve and communicate in English.
I use various teaching styles and methods to focus on improving the student’s communicative ability. I encourage the students to be active and responsible learners by using role-play, situational activities and group activities to promote their understanding of the English language. I employ various lesson contents, ranging from visual and auditory activities to reading, writing and comprehension exercises and organize these contents in such a way to best utilize the student's strengths and improve their weaknesses. The use of sequential lesson structure, taking the student from a single theme, to sentences to conversation and then free speech is a consistent aim in my approach.
Prior to teaching English I was pursuing a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology. During my internship I counseled individuals and groups with varying psychological disorders. These experiences, working with various age groups and ethnicities provided me with the skills to communicate and relate to a diverse range of people – people of all ages, cultures and abilities.
