Thank you for taking a moment to learn about me. I hold a master's degree in elementary education and a bachelor's degree in business administration. Thank you for taking a moment to learn about me. I hold a master's degree in elementary education and a bachelor's degree in business administration. My graduate work focused on how children build academic skills during the elementary years, how a student moves from counting to place value to larger operations, how phonemic awareness becomes fluent reading, and why a gap at one stage causes trouble two or three grades later.

I taught sixth grade full time for two full school years, carrying a class through math and reading while tracking each student's individual gaps and keeping parents informed about progress. I also substitute taught across grade levels from kindergarten through sixth, which gave me a sense of the entire elementary arc. I have seen what first graders are expected to master, what fourth grade demands, and where the curriculum starts leaving students behind. Substituting also meant earning an unfamiliar child's trust within minutes, which is essentially what a first tutoring session requires.

My approach starts with diagnosis, because a struggle rarely begins where the student thinks it does. A child stuck on fractions is often really stuck on division. A student who hates word problems usually reads well but has never been shown how to turn a sentence into an equation. I work through problems alongside the student rather than lecturing, and I keep going until they can explain the reasoning back to me in their own words.

I specialize in elementary math and reading for kindergarten through sixth grade, I work with students individually, and I always tell parents what we covered and what is worth reinforcing at home. I am also a parent myself, so I know what a frustrating homework night feels like at the kitchen table. If your child is falling behind, bored, or simply needs someone patient to sit down with them, I would welcome the chance to help.

Common Core

Common Core

I hold a master's degree in elementary education and spent two full school years as a sixth-grade classroom teacher, where Common Core standards drove my daily lesson planning, instruction, and assessment. I also substitute taught across grades K–6, which gave me a working knowledge of how the standards build on each other year to year. Especially in math, where students often struggle because a foundational standard from an earlier grade never fully clicked. I'm comfortable breaking a standard down into the specific skills a student needs, then explaining the reasoning behind Common Core's approach so it stops feeling like "the weird new math." My goal with every student is to connect what they're being asked to do in class back to why it works, so they can transfer the skill instead of memorizing a procedure.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a master's degree in elementary education and taught sixth grade full time for two school years, in addition to substitute teaching across every grade level from kindergarten through sixth. That range means I've seen firsthand how a kindergartner learning letter sounds and a sixth grader tackling fractions need completely different pacing, tone, and amount of hands-on practice. I work across the core elementary subjects; reading, writing, and math. I'm especially focused on finding the gap underneath the struggle, since a fifth grader stuck on long division is often really stuck on multiplication facts. I keep sessions structured but light enough that younger students stay engaged, and I give parents a clear picture of what we worked on and what to reinforce at home.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I hold a master's degree in elementary education and taught sixth grade full time for two school years, where math was the subject students most often walked in feeling defeated about. Most elementary math struggles aren't really about the current lesson, a student stuck on fractions is usually shaky on multiplication, and a student stuck on long division never fully locked in place value. My approach is to find that underlying gap first, rebuild it quickly, and then return to the grade-level work so it finally makes sense instead of feeling arbitrary. I've worked with students across K–6, so I can meet a first grader building number sense with manipulatives and a sixth grader working through ratios and negative numbers with equal comfort.
Reading

Reading

I hold a master's degree in elementary education and taught sixth grade full time for two school years, plus substitute taught across every grade from kindergarten through sixth. That range matters in reading, because a second grader still sounding out words and a sixth grader who reads fluently but can't explain what he just read need entirely different help. One needs phonics and decoding work, the other needs strategies for pulling out main ideas, making inferences, and citing evidence. I diagnose which of those is actually going on before we start, so we're not drilling skills a student already has. I also pay attention to whether a student has quietly decided he's "bad at reading," because confidence is often the real barrier and it doesn't improve until a student experiences a few wins.
