My previous experience with tutoring is for both majors for the subject and non-majors. I’ve been a lecturer for large classes and worked with individual students on a regular basis in office hours and additional assistance with homework, test preparation, and general understanding of the subject. I prefer a “you drive” method where the student leads the process, and I help steer and guide when needed. I believe that if you teach someone something the will learn little, but if they push through the work some they will learn more. Its important for a student to find a tutor that helps them understand the topic with their approach to learning.
The majority of students I have worked with are college students but I’ve worked with high school students as well. I’ve worked with students while being a professor at a university and an adjunct instructor while working in industry. This includes one on one, small group, and entire classes in recitation sessions. My basic requirement to work with someone is that they put in an honest effort, even if they didn’t get far.
