I am Arnie B, a graduate of NYU with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, currently living in Palm Beach Gardens, Fl with my wife and 4 Portuguese Water Dogs.
As an engineer, mathematics has always been an important tool to me which I have used virtually every day in my work. I have always enjoyed math and after successfully helping my 3 children who struggled to learn math as they progressed through school years go, I decided to help others as well. My students have had a great success rate. When I served as an officer in the military, I was head of a US Army School which trained soldiers to operate and repair defense systems. To do so they had to learn math as well as some sciences. I designed the curricula and taught the classes. As a tutor, I love helping my students succeed and working myself out f a job! My wife is a Learning Disabilities and Reading Specialist Teacher who has worked in private and public schools for years; we are an education oriented family.
I specialize in Algebra and Pre-Algebra, Trigonometry and Basic Math. I explicitly teach the material and where possible, draw parallels to everyday life, to help make the learning process more pleasant and meaningful. I particularly like to teach practical shortcuts and memory jogging techniques to make the material easier to master. Many students have difficulty because they "jump-in" before understanding the problem at hand. I teach students to use standard approaches to problem-solving methods which can be more easily remembered and applied over and over again. In learning math, I believe it is most important to use a logical step by step approach, before beginning to sort out the problem details.
When working with students, I like to get input from the parents and/or teachers so we can be sure we are focusing on what is really needed for success. Although I am located in Florida, on-line tutoring allows us to work together from anywhere. Hope to hear from you if you need math help.
