I have taught students of all ages among all subjects. My personal approach is asking them questions to try to evaluate what they know. Once I have a clear understanding of what they don't understand I will take one of 2 routes. I will either fix a misconception or I will try to simplify the problem to help them come to the conclusion on their own. In the context of teaching martial arts or fitness it depends a lot more on the student. If the student has a fun approach to fitness I will try to have fun while encouraging them to push. For students who take things a little more seriously, I used the same strategy as anybody other subject.
I am most experienced with one on one environments, I usually teach in a volunteer setting. I have done this for both fitness training and in classroom work. For classroom subjects I usually work with the student in a quiet setting and have them bring material from the class for us to work with. I taught martial arts like BJJ on a volunteer basis for a school I trained with and I taught horseback riding (to ages ranging from 2-72) for 5 years. When teaching sports that need creative form to stay safe, I try to create memory tricks or games. For example I let my students put money under their leg while they are riding (to encourage them to keep it still) and if it stayed by the end of the lesson, they could keep it.
I am new to college but I have a rigorous background from college. I earned my AICE diploma, I completed AICE math as a freshman (which allowed be to stay way ahead), I had a 5.0 GPA, graduated with an associates from Palm Beach State college (via dual enrollment), and completed the vet academy at Wellington High School. This is when I volunteered to tutor and I am experienced in helping others learn.
