For the last eleven years, I have been helping high school students with the college admissions process. My students have been accepted at Columbia, Brown, Dartmouth, Duke, UNC-CH, University of Pennsylvania, University of Florida, Purdue, UCLA, etc. I help students compile a college list, complete their personal statement, supplemental essays, the Common App, and resume, and learn about scholarships, etc.

I have edited thousands of essays for students. I am the author of a manual the city school system adopted for teaching children with learning disabilities, and I supervised the tutor training program.

For twenty years, I served on the Duke University Interview Committee and wrote a report for each student which I sent to the university. One fall, when we got our instruction packet from Duke, I looked at the sample ideal report sent to interviewers worldwide and realized it was mine.

As well as teaching and tutoring for years, I have brought up four children of my own who have gone on and gotten advanced degrees. I thoroughly enjoy young people and get excited about helping them excel. I have a warm, caring personality and a good sense of humor so the kids have fun while they learn. It would be a great honor if you would entrust me with your child, and I will do all in my power to see that he or she succeeds.

I have devised a system for sequentially teaching what students need to learn. Students laugh and have fun while they are learning.

Before the pandemic I taught bridge at the Vero Beach Bridge Center, the fourth largest bridge club in the United States. During the pandemic I taught over 300 bridge lessons online. I have taught at Johns Island and Orchid, two private country clubs in Vero Beach. I play bridge online professionally with paying clients. If your group of four wants bridge lessons online, the cost is $100/hour or $25 per person---a two-hour lesson would be $50/person.

I was runner-up in the state of Missouri in the state championship debate tournament. When I was on the debate team at Duke University, I was regional champion. When I taught high school English, I taught speech to my students and was the debate and speech coach (and we won all our tournaments). When I was in high school we went to Washington University in St. Louis where the speech professors would judge our oral presentations; I received a rating of 10/10 for all of my eight presentations.

Awesome Tutor.

Gail is teaching my son, reading, writing, and math. She does exercise with him to check comprehension. She keeps him on his toes. There is never a dull moment, she keeps him interested and engaged by picking topics that he enjoys. Since tutoring with her, he has gotten more interested in reading and interest in going to the library for more books to read. Math tutoring is also great. She breaks the material down so that he understands. Thanks! Gail you are a wonderful Turtor, I plan to work with you long-term. My son loves your teaching style. You are awesome!!!

Friendly and knowledgeable

My daughter needed help understanding her 7th grade grammar last minute before her test. It was pretty far fetched to expect much in 1 hour the day before her exam but we had to try. She had been studying for several days but she just kept getting frustrated with the different part of speech. Thank goodness for Gail! After the hour, my daughter felt like she understood so much more. Gail explained and quizzed to confirm my daughter understood, and was so encouraging. She was very knowledgeable and engaging and was so kind to fit us in last minute. Thank you, Gail!

Very helpful interview advice!

Gail has done an excellent job preparing me for an upcoming graduate school interview! She starts off the first session with a mock interview to see what answers you can come up with off the top of your head. She then sends you interview questions that the interviewers will most likely ask so that you can prepare answers to those questions for the upcoming tutoring session. She has offered a great outsider perspective on my interviewing skills and has pointed out quirks and behaviors I do during my mock interview that I am not aware of doing. She also does tutoring via Zoom, which I find is much easier to navigate. I would definitely recommend her for any upcoming interviews that you have coming up!
