I am success driven and motivated, a positive, and glass half-full person with over 25 years of experience in teaching, mentoring, motivating, and active learning. I am especially effective at developing and delivering engaging lessons and drawing on students’ own experiences. Learning can be hard work, but learning should also be fun and I work very hard to make my tutoring sessions fun and exciting. I also take full advantage of people’s natural, inquisitive nature and encourage lots of questions. It is said that Albert Einstein’s mother inquired of her young son each day about the most important question he had asked that day—not what he had learned. In our “information age,” asking the right question is just as important as having the right answer. My teaching philosophy is based on building sincere trust between myself and the student allowing me to cut through anxieties and fears about what they don’t know. We can then work effectively as a team and concentrate our full attention on what the student needs to learn. Each person has a distinct, preferred learning style which I incorporate into my tutoring. Combining all these elements, I create exceptional learning experiences and long-term concrete knowledge and understanding for my students. My core competencies are career development, interpersonal skills, critical thinking and financial literacy. I am also well versed in a number of other business related topics including public speaking, communications (active listening), assertiveness, and workplace / school behavior.
My work background includes 22 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force (Lieutenant Colonel, Retired) and another 10 years with civilian (fortune 500) companies where I developed, trained, and led top performing individuals and teams who received service and company-wide recognition. One of the Top Twelve Airmen of the United States Air Force award recipients personally credited me for positively influencing her military career.
