Hi everyone! My name's Dan. Thanks for checking out my page.

I specialize in standardized test score improvement, with over 8 years of experience helping students of all levels achieve their goals. I was also a three year letterman in baseball and football in high school.

Here's what I offer:

- First and foremost, my tutoring is tailored to YOU (or your son/daughter). I understand the value of some major tutoring services, but in the end the material has to be understood by the student. Achieving that comprehension will be the goal of every lesson, problem, and/or example we do.

- Comprehensive tutoring for the ACT and SAT, as well as the GRE and GMAT. I can work with graduate school applicants on both the quantitative and verbal portions of the respective entrance exams;

- Crucially, and as mentioned above, individually tailored lessons. I do not have a set program for everyone. Part of what you (or your child) deserve is individualized teaching that fits each student's needs and learning style;

- Flexible scheduling;

- A friendly, focused, teaching style;

- Substantial and detailed feedback after each lesson;

- Available by text and phone to answer questions or assist with practice problems, as needed;

- Plus much more!

Now for some background. I graduated from the University of Miami and then received my law degree from the University of Florida. While at UF, I was a member of the Florida Law Review, worked as a teaching assistant for both Legal Research and Writing and Appellate Advocacy, and received the Book Award in White Collar Crime. I also served on Law Review's publication committee, which selects student works for publication in the Review.

After passing the Bar Exam 2006, I went to work in the litigation department of Holland & Knight in Tampa. Practicing law has been a great experience; however, my passion is teaching, and to that end, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to teach bankruptcy law to paralegal students in Madison, Wisconsin several years ago.

Criminal Justice,

I have been a member of the Florida Bar since 2006, and have participated in numerous criminal defense matters. I also received the highest grade in my White Collar Crime class in law school.

I have hundreds of hours worth of experience tutoring for the GRE. My clients have gained acceptance into graduate schools all over the country. Anyone can improve his or her score on the GRE with the right help!
Law,

Law

I have been a practicing attorney for going on 15 years. I have handled cases in areas of law ranging from criminal defense to neighborhood zoning disputes to business transactions. Prior to becoming an attorney, I earned my J.D. from the University of Florida.
Public Speaking,

Public Speaking

During my time as an attorney, I have argued numerous motions in open court, frequently in front of other attorneys. I also conducted the oral argument as a teaching assistant in Appellate Advocacy, where I had to defend my position against a panel of judges in front of 50 fellow law students. One fun example of my public speaking experience was the honor of giving the Best Man speech at my brother's wedding with 250 guests in attendance. Also, lecturing on bankruptcy law twice a week to paralegal students further prepared me for public speaking engagements.

ACT English,

ACT English

The ACT English subsection combines elements of grammar, style, and reading comprehension. As such, it is often the least favorite of test-takers. However, there are repeat concepts and relatively simple strategies that can be employed to improve a student's score. Although it certainly takes practice, I have seen students improve their scores on this subsection by as many as 8-10 points!
ACT Reading,

ACT Reading

The ACT Reading subsection is, in many ways, like all reading comprehension tests. However, the ACT reading test requires that students comprehend the material QUICKLY, as time is at a premium. To that end, I stress techniques for anticipating what questions will be asked, and how to process material rapidly. It takes practice, but nearly anyone can improve his or her score on the ACT Reading test!

The SAT Reading test requires careful analysis, performed under timed conditions. Keeping these two points in mind, I teach students how to read quickly but effectively, and to thereby find textual support for their answers. I also explain how to recognize common elements of wrong answers on the SAT Reading, thus increasing their ability to use process of elimination and their comfort level with the test in general.

History

American History,

American History

I earned my B.A. in History from the University of Miami, with a concentration in American History, in 2002. I find the subject fascinating and infinitely rewarding to study. I believe students who are uninterested in the subject often view it as merely a collection of facts with little to no relevance to their lives. I make every effort to relate historical events to broader themes that they are likely to understand.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I am qualified to tutor in math up through SAT/ACT Math and Algebra 2. I also majored in math-intensive economics while at the University of Miami. In short, I believe in making math concepts more concrete, as I find many students struggle with the abstract nature of the subject.
Geometry,

Geometry

I believe students become more receptive to Geometry when it is made less abstract. By using drawings and illustrations, a tutor can trigger a student's intuitive sense of geometric figures, which helps substantially. Finally, I like to illustrate how geometry can be used to make calculations in areas as diverse as engineering and sports. This makes the material more accessible.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I have worked with hundreds of students on this subsection of the SAT, through Wyzant and elsewhere. I have developed a method that delivers consistent results, as attested to by my reviews. Furthermore, students of nearly any level can gain additional points by learning some strategies in addition to the concepts that I teach.

I have worked with hundreds of students on this subsection of the ACT, through Wyzant and elsewhere. ACT Science,

ACT Science

The ACT Science subsection is often the most daunting section students face on the ACT. However, with practice, I have seen students achieve their most significant score improvement on this portion. The test requires very rapid processing of data, but the techniques that I use have proven successful with students at all levels of academic achievement.

Baseball,

Baseball

I played four years of high school baseball, including as a member of the 1997 state champion Barron Collier Cougars (Class 4A, Florida). I also coached Little League baseball for two years. I am an avid fan of the sport and am very well-versed in the game's history, rules, and statistics.
Chess,

Chess

I have been an avid chess player since I was 6 years old. I am familiar not only with basic rules and piece capabilities, but also more advanced strategies, including anticipating how the board will develop several moves ahead. Perhaps most importantly, I understand how the game can both improve cognitive abilities and also be, quite simply, fun!
Fitness,

Fitness

I have worked out since I was 14 years old at least 3 times per week. I coached baseball and played football and baseball in high school. I am an avid reader of fitness magazines and understand the basics of training, nutrition, rest, and recovery.
Football

Football

I was a three year Varsity letter-man at a 5A high school in Florida. I played both offense and defense and thus have a solid foundation of knowledge of the fundamentals of the game on both sides of the ball. Additionally, I understand blocking schemes, pass protections, route combinations, defensive fronts, blitz packages, and more. I have been an avid fan for 25 years and have studied the development of sophisticated spread offenses and simple zone running attacks, as well as defensive zone-blitz schemes and other advances in defensive theory.

I passed the Florida Bar Exam in 2006 on my first attempt, scoring in the 90th percentile of test-takers for that year. Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Daniel helped me understand how the constitution and the Articles of Confederation and everything dealing with the bill of rights make more sense. I look forward to working with you some more in the near future! I would totally recommend Daniel as your tutor. He really takes his time and makes sure you understand what your trying to learn.

Great

My son was very pleased with how he handled him for the first time. My son was reluctant with this process because he didn’t want to be judged for his low SAT score. He (my son) said that Daniel was understanding and didn’t treat him any less because of his score! Thanks Daniel for making this easier on us!

Tonja, 2 lessons with Daniel

Strattegic

Daniel is a strong communicator and very helpful at quickly analyzing the situation and determining the best strategy to maximize tutoring time and increase test scores.

Knowledgeable and patient

Daniel helped me with my accounting studies for a college exam. He was very helpful with the information that I needed to go over and explained it very well. I was not sure on a few areas of the accounting exam and Daniel helped clear that up and help me have a better understanding of it.
