Studies have shown that many students are not on grade level. Some students can be two, three, or more grade levels below. Math builds yearly on what is learned previously; therefore, our approach is to work on grade-level topics while heavily focusing on recapturing what a student has missed or forgotten. Students will be given a diagnostic test (without a calculator) to assess their present levels. This provides students with the ability to work at their ability level and progress with self-confidence.
During the summer, the focus will be on getting ready for the upcoming school year. This will be done by reviewing previous topics using the diagnostic result. During the school year, homework help will be incorporated into tutoring, but focus will mostly be on learning loss. The belief is that each new year’s foundations are built on prior lessons. For example, exponents rely heavily on knowing prior lessons.
During the school year, tutoring can be provided after school from 5pm-8pm or on Saturdays between 9am-5pm. Tutoring can be provided at the student’s home, local library, or tutor’s home. During the summer, tutoring can be provided Monday through Saturday between 10am and 5pm. Sessions will be 50 minutes.
