Hi, I'm Akash! I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Rice University. While in college, I served as a teaching assistant for an introductory research course for three semesters, and I really enjoyed the experience of being able to help and guide others as they pursue their goals. As a TA, I primarily taught incoming freshmen in groups as they worked on a semester-long research project, introducing them to the relevant lab techniques, aiding with their experimental planning, and giving lessons on writing research papers and presenting posters. Many of these students were entering college with no prior research experience and as an educator, I made sure to meet each student where they were at - just as I will do as a tutor.
I'm currently in my gap year applying to medical schools; having more flexibility with my time now, I wanted to get back into teaching, and I believe that I could be of the most help through my expertise with the MCAT, which I took in late summer in 2023, scoring a 526. I am a strong believer that studying smarter is the key to acing the MCAT; studying for months with the pressure of doing well, along with classes or jobs, is stressful no matter what, and in my opinion, burnout is what causes scores to suffer the most. When I was preparing for my own exam, I made it a point to be organized and effective with my study plan, so that I had time for full-time research and time for relaxation but still felt fully prepared on the day of my exam. As I tutor, I will primarily focus on building study schedules, helping with content review and practice, and sharing test-taking strategies.
