Hi I'm Ruby! I am currently in the undergraduate program at Florida State University with a major in cognitive neuroscience, looking to minor next semester in data analytics, along with a double major BA in theatre. I attended high school at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts as a musical theatre major, and graduated with a 4.8 weighted GPA. While I was there I was in National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Thespians Honor Society. At FSU I am involved in clubs such as FSU HAAPE – Helping Adults with Autism Perform and Excel, GIVE FSU – Environmental Volunteering, Music Minds Tallahassee – “Cognitive Health and Music Education”, Pride Student Union, and Film Club FSU. Along with these clubs, I have also been involved in various studies at the university.
Previously, I have participated in various tutoring/teaching experiences such as tutoring dyslexic children, reading and math at Pine Forest Elementary (2020 to 2024). As well as an assistant "dance ensemble" teacher at Pine Forest Elementary (2022 to 2024) and an assistant Ballet Teacher at The Florida Ballet (2021 to 2023). Along with this I was a vacation bible school summer camp counselor at Southside Methodist Church and participated in “All in Arts”, which is a non-profit program put together by a group of students helping expose individuals with down syndrome, to the arts.
Throughout my tutoring experience, I have tutored students in ages ranging from 5 to 10, including students with various learning disabilities. When tutoring, I have only done one on one sessions however, while being a teachers assistant, I have done classroom setting teaching. Much of my experience is spread throughout time, but I have been a tutor for roughly 4 years. I believe that the tutor easily makes or breaks a students learning experience, and while it is a teachers job to relay information to the student, it is a tutors job to help the student contextualize the information they will need to digest, and set them up for success.
