Hi. I'm Carrie. I am a certified math teacher with 25 years of experience teaching middle and high school mathematics. I specialize in Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 because after teaching many higher level courses, I identified that many key learning gaps start with these courses.

In Pre-Algebra and Algebra courses, students learn a lot about solving equations and graphing. These skills become the foundation of every future math and science course. Even students who are getting A's and B's in these courses often struggle later because mastery was not achieved.

I can work with students on their current struggles but I can also administer a diagnostic to identify learning gaps that we can work on together. I help students achieve mastery now so that they excel in their current AND future courses.

This type of mastery is also very helpful when students start taking PSAT and SAT tests. A strong math foundation will significantly reduce the need for lengthy test prep. It's not unusual for students to spend months preparing for these college entrance exams because their foundation was weaker than anyone imagined. Together, we can ensure they are well prepared early.

I am new to the Wyzant platform as of March 2026, but I have 25 years of experience teaching and also with tutoring. When I work with students, I help them to understand math concepts - and also give them strategies and ways to tackle problems so they know exactly what to do, where to start, and how to finish their tests and assignments. Their confidence increases and anxiety and frustration are reduced.
