Hi! I’m Joe and I hope you’ll consider me for your biology and chemistry tutoring needs. I spent four years teaching biology at the college level in the classroom, but also spent a substantial amount of time with undergraduates training and mentoring them through their coursework. Biology and chemistry are all around us, but most of us don’t understand the intricacies of this amazing thing we call life! That said, what I enjoy most as a tutor is using my knowledge and experience to help students understand complex topics in biology and chemistry by relating it to things they observe everyday, then watch as the lightbulb comes on in their head!
After graduating with my BS in Integrative Biology I skipped a Master's Degree and went straight for a PhD, completing it in two and a half years, earning a 4.0/4.0, and finishing my PhD when I was 26. It was during this time that I learned to study very effectively and in turn help my fellow students. This is the type of passion and excellence I hope to deliver as your tutor... I don’t not just want to help you as a student pass a test, but I want to give you the student skills that will help you for the rest of your career as a student.
During my undergraduate and graduate coursework, I completed:
124 hours in Biology or related courses; coursework included: genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, microbiology, botany, plant physiology, agriculture, and soil science
19 hours in Chemistry or related courses; coursework include: general chemistry, organic chemistry, pesticide science; soil science
17 hours in Biostatistics or related courses; general statistics, field plot research statistics, biostatistics with training in JMP, SAS and R.
I have several publications in reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals, given countless scientific presentations, and continue to contribute to my field of study as a working scientist in the agricultural industry.
Overall, I hope you find that my credentials give you confidence that I would make an excellent tut
