I absolutely love teaching others how to absorb and apply the information that they need to be successful in life and to reach their short and long term goals. I have been teaching in different capacities on and off for 30 years and am bilingual in English and Spanish. I began by working as an autistic para at an elementary school back in the late 90s after graduating from the University of Kansas in Spanish literature. I learned an extraordinary amount about working with special needs and specific challenges of those on the autism spectrum. When I was in grad school at the university of Texas in Arlington I was a Spanish GTA. In addition, I tutored in English and Math and earned a master level 3 tutoring certificate. I also taught in one of their programs that helped prospective students pass university entrance exams for those who had English as a second language. A year later, I began teaching in Costa Rica for a year and a half at the Intensa Language Institute.
Later, when I had children of my own, I taught for 2 years as a substitute teacher in Texas from K to 12. At one point I was a tutor for a fifth grade classroom for over one month and, later, in a charter school I was a long-term substitute for over two months for an emerging learners third grade classroom. This was my most challenging assignment as these students were on an average 2 years behind and many had significant behavioral issues. By incorporating a reward system and hands-on students began showing significant progress and a renewed enthusiasm for learning.
While living in the Miami area from 2011 to 2014, I got 2 certificates in TOEFL, one for teaching children and another for teaching adults. I taught at the highly respected Inlingua Language Institute. I also tutored privately in Math & English.
For the past four years, I have worked for a therapy company as a PSR (psychosocial rehabilitation specialist). This is a type of life coach that focuses on practical skills. I worked primarily with teens and children.
