Hi! My name is Abbie. I am a student at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Wilkes Honors College, double majoring in neuroscience and interdisciplinary mathematics in the combined Bachelor of Science and Medical Doctorate degree (BS/MD) program. I was the valedictorian of my high school, scored a 1550 on the SAT (perfect score of 800 in math / 750 in reading and writing), and am a National Merit Scholar. I have extensive experience with advanced mathematics, and earned a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam as an 8th grader. In addition to completing AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science Applications, and AP Computer Science Principles, I also studied Calculus 3, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations at the college level through dual enrollment. My senior year of high school, I completed a course in Neural Networks, a mixed senior/graduate (4000/5000) level course at the Florida Institute of Technology, constructing neural networks from scratch using multivariate calculus. I am currently working in the Pena Lab for Computational Neuroscience, studying the use of tree shrew to computationally model the visual cortex based on stimulus orientation, size, and location in space.

I have been tutoring for 5 years in a variety of levels ranging from Pre-Algebra through AP Calculus BC. I reactivated a chapter of Mu Alpha Theta National Math Honor Society and was able to create a math tutoring program through this chapter to ensure that students would have a pathway to achieve their mathematical goals. I am a patient and understanding tutor who truly wants to help by giving you the tools you need to succeed. This involves not simply solving the problems but also providing reasoning behind the problem so you can apply this logic to solve similar problems. I believe that understanding the problem-solving process is often more important than coming up with the correct answer to a given specific question.

I look forward to meeting you & hope to be able to help you achieve success!

Phenomenal Tutor!

Abbie was a wonderful Algebra tutor!!! She is the first tutor who was able to help me understand some tricky concepts. When she saw that I wasn't understanding, she was able to break down the concept into steps and explain the concept several different ways until I was able to understand. What I liked most was that she didn't rush and just show me answers, rather she took me step by step, making sure that I understood the problem and could apply this understanding on my own. Abbie was very patient, well-prepared, and very interested in helping me understand. I wish I had found her months ago.
