I have always loved helping people understand things that initially seem difficult. My background combines business, economics, computer science, data analysis, and more than three decades of professional technology and AI experience. I earned an individually designed undergraduate degree in Data Processing from The College of Wooster, combining business/economics and computer science. My senior thesis explored the use of spreadsheets in business, beginning a career-long focus on using data and technology to solve problems and make better decisions.
I began tutoring computer science students while at Wooster and, as part of my junior thesis, taught COBOL to senior students. I later tutored at Bryan University, working with students in mathematics, statistics, computer applications, and study-related skills, and conducted Excel workshops. I have also provided one-on-one math tutoring to high-school students. Throughout my professional career, teaching continued in another form: I have coached individuals and groups in data analysis, technology, business processes, AI, and new systems.
My approach is to first understand where a student is getting stuck and how they think. I explain concepts in different ways, work through examples together, and then let the student apply what they have learned independently. I also teach students how to use today's AI tools responsibly for studying, practice, research, and understanding difficult concepts—without allowing AI to become an answer machine or replace their own thinking. My goal is to help with today's challenge while building the confidence, problem-solving skills, and learning habits that make the student increasingly independent.
