Hi I'm Andrew! If you’re a musician that wants to create and understand music without the academic gatekeeping, over-complicated notation, and other abstract bullshit, then you’ve found the right tutor. I'm a bass player and educator, and I honed my craft over 4 years of running theory workshops for musically-inclined engineering students... who tore my lessons apart. Engineers don't like fluff, and they don't let anything slip by without justification. But that was exactly what brought my workshops to the next level: every topic *had* to logically follow from the last. Thanks to my formal education in Computer Science and Mathematics, I could translate music concepts into a language they understood. Although the engineers were particularly difficult, my experience extends well beyond them.

I studied Theory and bass privately for 8+ years, which I owe much of my success to. By avoiding traditional music education, I was able to explore my musical interests and question how things were taught. Without a test to teach to, most traditional concepts crumbled under a simple "But why?". Now with my private students, I distill that knowledge into the core concepts needed to discover theory for yourself. The goal of my theory workshops are to give you the tools and intuition to understand music at any level of detail — covering ear training, jazz, composition, and notation. When you can break a song into its pieces, you can steal whatever you like and use it in your own music (creativity). And beyond theory, my bass lessons are designed to help you push past the intermediate plateau and step into advanced playing with confidence.
