Hello I’m Avery, a childhood educator with an academic background in Early Education and Youth Development. I am a musician, writer and resident of tropical St. Petersburg, Florida. My goal is to provide children with tools, inspiration, and support.
My teaching methods have a foundation and focus on evidence and strength-based pedagogic methods to support all aspects of the learner; psychological, social, and emotional.
I love to use creative and hands activities to approach common core subjects. With math I love using moving parts, that engages multiple senses, to increase a connection with the subject.
I am patient. I am attentive. I am positive. When tutoring in reading and all common core subjects I am sure to create a favorable environment for learning to instill trust between myself and the student. We work through things, slowly and patiently, trying multiple avenues until we have our “ah-ha moment.” I find this helps students value the process of learning and helps getting fixated on failure.
I love the arts! I love how we can use it to enhance our lives and I love how it’s all around us. I use art and art history to allow students to be creative and experiment. This gives students confidence and a chance to decrease their stress levels. There are so many wonderful history, science, math, and reading lessons that you can slip in with a good art project.
I have a background in piano and youth enrichment music programs. Music is a wonderful tool for students to build their brains. Yes, the rumors are true. Music builds your brain. Because of our strong emotional reactions towards music, it can make a really wonderful learning tool. This has multiple benefits for a wide variety of subject areas.
I would love to share more of my unique lesson plans and curriculum with you and your family. Please reach out. I am looking forward to speaking with you soon and scheduling lessons.
