Greetings!
I'm Amanda (Mandi) D. I am a young professional woman approaching my thirties. I have a passion for encouraging and helping others discover new talents and tap into their unknown potential, I began my transition into education. In 2016, I took my first teaching job - a high school Biology position. Since entering the classroom, I have continually explored new ways to combine my passion to ignite a passion and curiosity in the students I teach to continually observe, question, and inquire about the environment that surrounds them. The ideology that influences my teaching style is that learning is an on-going process. As an ongoing process, learning is not a one-size fits all mold - it should be organic and inquiry based. My classroom is a reflection of flexibility and student choice while focusing on cultivating and honing problem solving and critical thinking skills. I offer multiple and varied opportunities for my students to engage in tasks to access the content in a way that connects with their individual real-world experience(s).
I began tutoring in 2017 when working as a youth mentor and academic tutor to supplement my income. In my position with Heart of Florida United Way, I worked in low income areas with at-risk high school seniors. While the program focused on helping at-risk seniors in a one-on-one or small group setting with a focus in English and Math, I was also able to focus on study skills as well as science and test prep.
My goal as an educator is to help support and benefit the students I work with to achieve their goals. I encourage the students (and sometimes the parents) to be active in the learning process. Therefore, I am open to suggestion or the use of any additional materials that will contribute to the success of my students. I am easy to reach and will provide a timely response to all inquiries. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson today!
