I am an experienced English and Special Education tutor who helps students strengthen reading comprehension, develop clear and organized writing skills, and build academic confidence. I work with students from elementary through college, and support both struggling learners and high-achieving students. I bring eight years of classroom experience and more than eleven years of tutoring, along with a Master’s degree in Exceptional Student Education and certification in English and Special Education in multiple states. I also have more than 27 years of experience as a professional writer and editor, which allows me to teach writing in a clear, structured, and practical way. My background includes working with students in Title I programs, general education, honors courses, and college-level writing.

My tutoring approach is calm, fun, supportive, and individualized. I meet students at their current academic level while taking into account learning style, personality, and stress level. My sessions are organized and systematic but flexible to help students build skills without feeling overwhelmed. In reading, I focus on skills such as identifying main ideas, using text evidence, understanding author’s purpose, making inferences, and using context clues. In writing, I support organization and clarity across formats including argumentative, explanatory, and persuasive writing, from elementary through college.

Every student brings their unique gifts to learning, so lessons are created to reflect that while providing support, appropriate challenge, and clear approaches for success. I am passionate about language arts and working with diverse and gifted learners, and I bring a steadiness and positivity to each session.
