About Kelsey

Two of the major obstacles that students face are self-confidence and self-motivation. Having a private tutor is the best way to overcome these hurdles. Personalized one-on-one interaction encourages students to perform at their highest level. They receive the extra practice they need to become confident in the skills they possess and develop the adaptability to put those skills to work in any scenario. Experiencing personal growth in these areas is the first step to gaining self-confidence. With this upper hand, students are more likely to be to push themselves to set even higher expectations.

My goal in developing this confidence and motivation is to help students become independent learners. I don’t just provide shortcuts and rote memorization tactics that merely answer, “When do I do this?” and, “What do I do here?” I want the student to walk away saying, “I know why this happens.” With this deeper understanding, students are able to apply what they’ve learned to other content areas that will help them become self-sufficient learners. Having the confidence and motivation to approach any task with the mindset of gaining a full understanding of the topic is intrinsically linked to being successful, no matter what avenue you choose. We strive to cultivate that curiosity and the desire in our students to strive to know why, ultimately giving them the competitive edge that helps them stand out from the crowd.

I tutor all levels of Math, Spanish and Statistics. I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish from the College of Wooster in Ohio, a master's degree in Economics from the University of Akron, and a master's degree in Mathematics also from the University of Akron. In addition to my extensive education, I have experience teaching in a classroom setting and in small groups, and over 10 years of private tutoring experience. I currently teach math at St. Petersburg College. In my spare time, I enjoy being active and play ultimate frisbee, rugby, volleyball, soccer, and just about anything else. I also really like pets!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
