I graduated from high school with an International Baccalaureate diploma in 2005 and graduated from an honors college with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts in 2009. My college education featured reading/writing intensive coursework (including psychology, child development, and a diversity in education class) as well as an internship in an afterschool program and a job in a middle school mentorship program. My thesis was about the development of resilience in children growing up in disadvantaged, "high-risk" environments.
I've worked with children and young adults in various capacities since 2005. My childcare experience ranges from newborns to teenagers, including children with special needs. I've worked as a camp counselor, an afterschool club coordinator, an outdoor education facilitator, and a co-director of a small summer camp teaching human rights to middle schoolers.
In reading/writing related roles, I've worked as a paraprofessional in a first grade classroom, a private tutor (phonics with early readers to essay writing with high schoolers), and a coordinator/tutor for a pod of first graders doing online school during the 2020-2021 school year. I enjoy working with young students learning to read through systematic phonics instruction. I love getting to know my students and making lessons tailored to their needs and interests.
