I have been teaching Intro to Biology at Flagler College for the past five years. I still teach a class in the Spring and the Fall. I am looking to tutor over the summer and continue some in the semesters. I have also taught Environmental Science before. I got my Masters degree for Biology from UCF in 2014. I have been teaching Intro to Biology at Flagler College for the past five years. I still teach a class in the Spring and the Fall. I am looking to tutor over the summer and continue some in the semesters. I have also taught Environmental Science before. I got my Masters degree for Biology from UCF in 2014. I also work full time for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Northeast District as an air permit writing and air compliance inspector. I have a talent for breaking down complicated subjects so that they are easier to understand. I don't have a ton of experience on the tutoring side, but I am hoping to change that.
In graduate school my thesis covered the density-dependent phenotypic plasticity of the American birdwing grasshopper. This follows the evolution of the locust behavior phenomenon that originated from the desert locust. I conducted behavior experiments, reared grasshopper colonies in isolated and crowded populations, and conducted molecular bench work to determine the phylogeny of the species. I also took entomology, herpetology, and tropical rainforest ecology to broaden my mastery of Biology. I'm happy to share my experiences in the world of Biology with my students.

Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I have read the entire Bible during my downtime in the Marine Corps. I have been attending church for many years as well as disciple groups where we have discussed the interpretation of verses and their impact on modern day. I find the Bible very fascinating just to look at the history of it. I don't fixate much on memorizing verses because I think people can use specific verses to justify their actions or beliefs. I like to look at the Bible holistically to gain a better understanding of our reality.
Biology

Biology

I have taught Introduction to Biology Fundamentals in person at Flagler College for the past five years. I can research more specific biomedical or anatomy information to tutor as well, I have taken courses such as Immunology and I was a teaching assistant in Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. I have two publications in the Journal of Insect Physiology from my graduate school research for my thesis in biology which covers density-dependent phenotypic plasticity in the American birdwing grasshopper. For my tutoring style, I try to understand what the student is struggling with and find ways to break it down in a more understandable way and find practice examples to better explain the problems.
Ecology

Ecology

I have taken Ecology, Tropical Rainforest Ecology, and Biodiversity. I cover these subjects in my Biology class as well.
Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook

I have been using Microsoft Outlook for the past 9 years. Very familiar with organizing emails and using the calendar functions in Outlook.
Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have been making PowerPoints for over two decades including making presentations in the military for officers.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Having a Masters degree in Biology and teaching Biology at Flagler College has forced me to accept that public speaking is just a matter of the trade that we all have to do to be successful. If you are not nervous when speaking in public than you are not that concerned about the topic of your speech or the impact. Being a teacher, I embrace the nervousness because it pushes me to always try to improve. Through my office work with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection I have also completed the Dale Carnegie course. The gist of it is that everyone's favorite word is their own name. A good tack to public speaking is to learn how to be a story teller. By bringing personal stories in a positive manner, you can make any speech more impactful for your audience. I'm an introverted person, but if you are also introverted, I can help you learn how to overcome the natural instinct of unbearable nervous when having to speak in public with every eye in the room upon you.
