Since early childhood my dream was to become a teacher. Years later I accomplished that dream and began my career as an elementary school teacher. A few years after that I specialized as a teacher of the hearing impaired. I have spent more than 25 years in the field of education achieving many awards and accomplishments, as well as words of thanks from the many students I have had the pleasure of working with over the decades. Here is a recent Facebook posting from one student I taught in 1994:
"I Look back & I see how much I changed. I want to say thank you to the first teacher who worked hard to try & push me to do my best & who is the main reason why I never gave up on myself. Thank you Mrs. Deborah! I never had the chance to say this when I was younger & was too hard-headed @ the time lol."
Today I tutor to satisfy my strong desire to continue this dream of teaching so that I may help others fulfill their true potential and to encourage them to be their best.
My expertise is in teaching Reading, Phonics, ESL/EFL, and TESOL. My goal is to ensure that each student see their skills, test scores, and grades improve. My sessions are both interesting and challenging. Additionally, I assign homework after every session that reinforces skills covered in the lesson. I also give periodic assessments to determine the progress being made and an updated report card is provided on a regular basis.
I demand only the best from myself and firmly believe the same should be true for my students - I believe that together we can both accomplish the goals set forth. I offer a free initial consultation meeting. Once our sessions begin I encourage feedback and will not charge for any session the student or parent believes did not meet the goals established.
Though I have some flexibility with hours I do request a 24-hour cancellation notice. Make-up classes are provided when needed.
To ensure the student has a quiet, safe, and comfortable space to work in my sessions are held at the local public library where
