Hello!

I'm Dan...been OD (for 'Other Dan') and OTD (OvertheTopDan), but I'm probably most comfortable with just 'dude'.

I am a cybersecurity expert, having spent 25 years working with such entities as Microsoft, Amazon and the U.S. army as an inhouse authority on security concerns and technical implementations. I hold a large number of industry certifications.

I was one of the first in the world to earn the CompTIA Cloud+, as I was part of the Beta team that assisted in it's development, and passed the test without reference material or a rubric on what it might cover. I also hold, from CompTIA, the Advanced Security Practioner certification, or CASP, and the lead up certifications Security+, Server+ and A+.

I am also an expert in Microsoft Engineering, certified in Azure Artificial Intelligence, Microsoft365 Security Operations, Azure for SAP Systems and Azure Security Engineering.

For verification, my CompTIA Member ID is COMP001008174823 and my Microsoft credential ID is 12317280.

I have taught courses on most of the certifications I hold, including the Security+ and A+ to U.S. Army personnel, and almost every Microsoft security exam on platforms such as CBTNuggets.com, StormwindStudios.com, LinuxAcademy.com and ACloudGuru.com. Overall, I've been teaching for almost 10 years. My current, prerecorded material is hosted on PluralSight.com, while here (and only here) is where you can catch me live. And, as a byproduct, if you're looking for information about creating or editing web-destined content, I'm a great resource for the initiate and veteran alike, especially when it comes to game streaming or using capture tools like Open Broadcast Studio OBS.

In addition to cyber security, I also am a consummate traveler and history buff, living in 20 different American states and 15 different countries in my life.

Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity

Hello! I'm Dan, and I've been doing cybersecurity longer than we called it that. I've been full time cybersecurity since 2010, where I worked as an Information System Security Manager for an Architecture firm that helped build American embassies. Security was my full time focus from that point on. I spent several years working as a military contractor and cybersecurity specialist, working in Afghanistan and Kuwait overseas and at several defense facilities domestically in the U.S. Most recently, I've been working as a Security Architect helping Microsoft Enterprise customers advance their security programs. I spoke on Data Loss Prevention at RSA San Francisco in 2024, and on Extended Detection and Response at Blackhat Las Vegas in 2023.

Information Technology

Hello...I'm Dan! I've been working in IT for almost every minute of my professional life. I started learning IT skills in high school, working on my CompTIA+, Microsoft MCSE and Cisco CCNA certifications. I've been in IT ever since, and it's taken me all around the world, to companies of every size and industry, and I've had a chance to intimately get to know almost every major IT advancement from the past 20 years. I currently serve as a Cyber Security Architect and trainer, advising corporate leadership on how to advance their infrastructure and security programs.
Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

Microsoft productivity services and the enterprise products developed to support and secure them are my specialty. A complex weave of services, one focuses on role-based skill sets, and the Windows platform is almost too big to call just one skill set. I can speak at great length to every aspect and component of using a Windows device, any version, including Server.
Networking (Computer)

Networking (Computer)

My very first IT interest was in Networking, taking a Cisco Certified Networking Administrator course all the way back in 1999. I've developed a complete understanding of the networking OSI Model and its application in Identity and Access management, data security and governance. Networking lies at the core of todays virtual topologies and have decades of experience working within and around it.

Knowledgeable and easy to talk to Tutor

Dan is insightful, patient, outgoing and full of in-depth system knowledge partnered with insider tricks and shortcuts that come from years and years of hands-on experience. He was available pretty much 24/7 and I was wondering if the man ever slept. With that, I was able to excel in my CYBR340 Operating Systems class secure in the knowledge that I will pass with the proverbial flying colors. There was a while there I felt like I might not do as well as I should. The big hurdle was a persnickety Virtualbox and RockyLinus download that had ongoing connectivity issues. A systems upgrade at my end at his suggestion with a Microsoft Virtual Desktop fixed that. Once he helped me dial it in, I was golden. To close, working this class and meeting Dan was a reality check for those that think working the IT Help Desk is a gravy train with biscuit wheels. It is more than that, I know that, and Dan can tell you that. If you need a tutor knowledgeable in Operating Systems and Mobile Devices, Dan Sasse is your go-to man.
