Certified Reading Specialist and Secondary English Teacher

After graduating from college as an English major, I taught middle school RELA (Reading/ English Language Arts). I quickly realized that I lacked the necessary skills to teach students how to read, so I returned to school, obtained a masters in reading, and was armed with the skills to teach struggling students how to succeed at reading- a boost to their self-confidence. I became a reading specialist and eventually a literacy coach teaching teachers how to use high impact reading lessons in all content areas.

At the college level I taught Critical Thinking and Academic Writing for freshmen. I am also experienced prepping students and adults for standardized exams, college applications, scholarship essays, and I excel at teaching grammar. I have taught overseas and have experience working with students who recently exited ESOL and still need support. I also help students with study skills and organization and other necessary executive functioning skills.

I love to help students make the correlation between what they are learning in school and how to apply that to this complex digital world. We can work together to develop some academic goals and establish strategies to accomplish them. I can be easily reached, and we can decide on a schedule that works best.
