As a Florida certified teacher (grades K-6), I can effectively teach all facets of elementary education. I have improved my teaching skills through many workshops which include: Melissa Forney's writing workshop, Mary Lewis' writing workshop, Advanced Reading Practices, numerous special education trainings, and five English as a second language endorsement courses that help me address my students' learning styles. My specialty is in writing. I use a step by step method to help build writing confidence through the use of guided outlines, writing frames, thinking maps, and targeted practices such as effective use of transitional phrases. Additionally, I have several years of one on one tutoring experience, with positive and tested learning gains.

Florida certified teacher with over 80 credits in special education. First, I teach phonics by blending letter sounds and then syllable sounds into words. Next, I focus on sight words and vocabulary building. After that, I use reading response journals to help develop comprehension and writing skills.

As a Florida certified teacher (grades K-6) I have developed many lessons that help students build effective study skills. Each student learns differently and all learning styles must be addressed. For example, some students learn audibly and remember a fact by hearing it and some students learn visually by seeing the fact written down. A good example of a lesson that I use for vocabulary is a five tiered way of learning. The lesson starts with having the student say the word, next he or she writes the word, after that the student writes the definition of the word, then he or she draws a picture of the word's meaning, and finally the student acts out the meaning of the word through role playing. Lessons like this really address all learning styles and I apply this method to most subjects. Another study tool I teach are thinking maps. Thinking maps are student created graphic organizers that help the student break down text into logical parts, like cause and effect, compare and contrast, classifying information, and multiple word meanings. Thinking maps develop critical thinking skills in students and increase reading comprehension throughout all subjects.

Writing

Due to outstanding writing training from Mary Lewis and Melissa Forney coupled with excellent writing test scores, I presented my best writing practices to my fellow teachers. My presentation included: organizational thinking maps, expository formats, narrative formats, sizzling vocabulary, poetry, and elaboration through the use of mini moments. Ultimately, each teacher received a well organized packet of writing lessons that they can use with their students to fine tune their writing skills.
