Elementary (K-6th)

My Tutoring Experience in Elementary Education (K-6th) I was a home-school teacher for approx 14 years, teaching all core subjects from Pre-K to 10th Grade. During this time I also started an after-school program for students that were having a difficult time meeting educational standards in grades K-10th. I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration which consists of a major in Industrial Psychology and a minor in Education. With a passionate interest in emotional psychology and its effect on learning, I endeavored to attain a Master's degree in School Psychology of which I completed 1 year (23 credits). I enhanced this formal learning with personal reading on child development, teaching children with emotional challenges, and various subjects related to teaching techniques. This educational background helped not only to be successful in teaching my own child which is now a dual enrolled (High School + College Courses) A+ student, but to mentor and help other students gain victory when they thought their ability to achieve was hopeless. The skills I bring to the tutoring requires understanding how to create harmony between the emotional and the mental aptitude of my student that will motivate learning and the continual desire to achieve. Through patient encouragement and progressively achieving attainable goals, the student is able, at their own pace, to have victory. I have excellent problem solving skills, useful for breaking down theory or concepts into goals applicable and achievable to the specific student. This is necessary for teaching Phonics, Math concepts, Writing, Comprehension or any subject matter. I can also be helpful in creating a scope and sequence per subject for home-schoolers. Reinforcement through practice activities, of learned concepts or ideas, is necessary for retention and is therefore a requirement in my tutoring. With patience, encouragement, motivation, continually reaching attainable goals and reinforcement each student is able to achieve and experience victory.

Special Needs

I have professional educator certification to work as an ESE (Exceptional Student Education) instructor from the FLDOE. I have been working in that capacity for the last 7 years. As such I have gained extensive knowledge on working effectively with students with disabilities. I implement intensive research based interventions (Visualizing and Verbalizing, Seeing Stars and On Cloud Nine) proven to be effective in helping students that are struggling with foundational reading and math concepts and skills.
